WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THREADLIFTING
Silhouette Instalift® and PDO Theads (Mint®, NovaThreads®) are specially designed
threads that, properly placed under the skin, lift the sagging facial or neck tissues in
patients who are not ready for or are not good candidates for a Facelift or a Necklift. The
results typically last up to 24 months (average 8 – 12), but the procedures are minimally-
invasive and recovery is quick.
The 30 min office procedure is painless and involves the placement of threads made of
PDO (Polydioxanone) or Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) directly under the skin using a fine
needle. The PDO threads can have either unidirectional or bidirectional barbs that fixate
in the tissue and prevent sliding. Silhouette Instalift has bidirectional cones that, once
anchored, prevent the tissues from sliding. Because the Silhouette thread and cones are
made of the biostimulatory molecule Sculptra, as they dissolve, they lead to deposition
of new collagen.
Typically, between 6 and 10 threads are used per session, and the effect lasts up to 1.5
years. The procedure is done in the office and is painless. Minimal to moderate skin
puckering is common and it goes away in less than a week. It is important not to open
the mouth wide, laugh, massage the face or sleep face down for a week after the
procedure.
