result in persistent and inaesthetic facial scars. Although scars typically become less
apparent with time, some do remain very obvious due to their location, texture or color.
Various in office procedures can be performed to reduce the appearance of facial scars.
Triamcinolone injection (Kenalog) can be highly effective at reducing the prominence of
raised up scars and decreasing vascularity.
PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection, especially in combination with microneedling
(Dermapen) is also very useful for blending in the scar with the adjacent tissues once the
scar has become flat.
Botulinum toxin (Botox) can also work in conjunction with other treatments to decrease
scar prominence in selected patients.
Sometimes, surgical excision in necessary for highly elevated or very wide scars followed
by controlled healing if hypertrophic scar or keloid formation is impending.
